UM Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning is the academic support unit that provides leadership and expertise in furthering the mission of teaching and learning at the University of Manitoba. The Centre offers unique workshops, toolkits, access to information and 1-on-1 support to teaching staff to develop their skills.

The Centre has six key areas of practice:

Faculty Development and Consultation
Curriculum Development and Renewal
Research, Evaluation and Innovation
Flexible Learning Course Development and Support
UM Learn and Solutions
Strategic Projects and Programming

Specialty workshops are offered in the following which are unique to the University of Manitoba while supporting the sustainability goals of the institution:

Equity, diversity and inclusion workshops
Health and wellness workshops
Specialty teaching workshops
Experiential learning workshops
Indigenous workshops

Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) inform teaching and learning in countless ways. The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning provides resources for instructors and faculty to deepen their understanding of key terms, learn more about specific teaching and learning strategies, and gain motivation to take action.

The Office of Experiential Learning within the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning serves as a gathering place for collaboration and innovation in experiential education. The Office supports a growing community of practice dedicated to sharing knowledge, fostering reflection, and enhancing experiential learning opportunities.

The Centre is also a strategic partner of the Province of Manitoba’s Flexible Learning HUB, an initiation dedicated to advancing, with technology, teaching and learning at the post-secondary level through the offer of innovative course design for online education.
