A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
The UM Green Events Guide aims to minimize waste and negative impacts on the environment while promoting sustainable actions. In alignment with the UM Sustainability Strategy, students, staff and faculty event planners are able to see that their operations are part of the collective effort to bring the University's short- and long-term sustainability goals to life. Event organizers are invited to select and implement actions under sections such as Travel & Commute, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, as well as Promotion & Engagement in an online form. For an event to be green-certified event organizers will:
1. Complete the Green Virtual or In-Person Events form at least 2-3 weeks before the event.
2. Follow the resource links provided within the event-form to learn more about actions in each section
3. The Office of Sustainability will review the completed form, finalize the event score and send you the organizer their certificate. Certifications range from bronze to gold.
4. Have event organizers’ sustainability efforts recognized by including the Green Event certification in their event promotion
