The University of Manitoba has a Sustainability Advisory Committee currently chaired by Kristina Hunter of the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources. The committee meets ten times per year and advises the Vice President Administration and Vice President Academic on sustainability-related directions and activities. Membership includes the University's Sustainability Director, two representatives from the University of Manitoba Students' Union (UMSU), one representative from the Graduate Students Association (GSA), four appointed faculty members and four appointed administrative members. Administrative support is provided to the Committee by the Office of Sustainability.

The Office of Sustainability acts as a champion for sustainability efforts in university, regional, national and global affairs through collaboration with students, faculty, staff, local community, and partners across higher education. The office is an engagement hub for the University community, facilitating sustainability learning and practice and working as a catalyst for change, it provides planning and decision-making support, and the office ensures accountability and transparency.

Does the institution have a mechanism for broad sustainability coordination for the entire institution (e.g. a campus-wide committee or an officer/office responsible for the entire campus)?:

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The director of the Office of Sustainability leads, lends support, manages and coordinates the functions of the Office of Sustainability including consultation with governing and other University offices, academic departments, and students, staff and faculty for University sustainable development plans and accumulation of data for STARS and other reporting processes. Since its inception in 2013, the Office of Sustainability has played a key role in developing and accomplishing many sustainability related plans. Recently, the Office of Sustainability has created a Transportation Strategy to help guide improvements of sustainable transportation. The Office has also successfully implemented a bike parking strategy that includes new bike racks and bike lockers, initiated a Living Lab program, Green Office program, and Residence Advisor Training Program, and progressed University Childcare forward. There are many more initiatives in the pipeline for the Office of Sustainability including completion of the Biodiversity and Rain/Storm Water studies.
