A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
The University of Manitoba is committed to fostering the development of the next generation of Indigenous leaders by providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes Indigenous student success from the time of admission through graduation and Manitoba. The Pathways to Indigenous Achievement is based upon the following directions:
1) Supporting students
2) Building partnerships and supporting communities
3) Sharing Indigenous knowledge and research
4) Celebrating First Nations, Metis and Inuit successes
A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
This commitment to Indigenous achievement has resulted in many measurable outcomes, including:
1) The construction of the Migizii Agamik - Bald Eagle Lodge.
2) Establishment of the Indigenous Student Centre
3) Providing access to programs with an indigenous focus or that support Indigenous acheivement
4) Creation of the Medicine Garden of Learning (at the Bannatyne Campus)
5) Incorporation of Indigenous planning principles and Indigenous perspectives into the Visionary (re)Generation campus master planning exercise and (when complete) planning products
