We imagine a responsible, healthy, and prosperous community in which individuals are committed to caring for and valuing the environment, for the short and long-term benefit of the UMaine community” (https://umaine.edu/gci/). GCI members are supported by UMaine’s Auxiliary Services, which provides management and financial support to the student educators. GCI events and activities are targeted toward the entire student body. These include: The UMaine Sustainability Handbook, Greenzines (a semi-monthly zine featuring up-to-date sustainability-related information geared toward the UMaine community), Zero-Waste dining events, sustainability-centered bulletin boards, tabling on sustainability topics, hosting events for the Green Living and Learning Community, and volunteering for sustainability-related causes.
