Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Food Recovery
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The University partners with Second Harvest Food Bank and Sodexo to eliminate the wasteful practice of throwing away nutritious left-over food from dining services, catered events, and athletic events. University students, faculty, and staff volunteer to recover food from events and Sodexo recovers food from dining services. This recovered food is delivered to Second Harvest or their food pantry partners, where it is then properly stored according to food safety standards. The food is then distributed to our community members who are experiencing food insecurity. Since the effort began in December 2016, our partnership has kept more than 10,800 meals (6,432 lbs of food) and its embodied energy and water from being wasted.
