A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

Pre-covid (Fall 2019), students are given various options during move-in to interact with sustainability. These include:
- A Campus Sustainability tour is given to all parents during orientation.
- SOUL Camp: a unique experiential transition program that supplements New Student Orientation. SOUL Camp is designed to provide first-time freshmen with the skills and networks to help them develop leadership skills and Ragin' Cajun spirit. Through a combination of a community service projects, educational speakers, social activities, interaction with faculty, staff, and upperclass student mentors, team building, and much more, students leave camp prepared to be an engaged member of our campus community.
About 600 students attend SOUL Camp. On day 1 of the 3-day program students are addressed by the Director of Sustainability at their opening ceremony and lunch. They then take part in sustainability-related community service projects that are organized and executed by the Offices of Community Service and Sustainability.

- During Operation Move In, students go through an orientation about on campus living as well as move-in processes and procedures. During this orientation presentation they are introduced to campus recycling with slides about recycling procedures related to their move-in materials. 1200 students moved onto campus on this day.
- Freshman Week takes place the week before classes start and is a week full of programming geared towards all campus residents, especially the new Freshmen. For the past two years we have put on a “Let it Greaux” event where we have students plant native wildflowers and watch the movie The Lorax. Students in attendance get a brief introduction to the Sustainability RA Committee and Office of Sustainability before the movie starts.

For 2020, a video about sustainability on campus was put into the "Cajun Connection" portal that all new freshman must complete.
