The University has a series of Working Groups, each of which selects and highlights areas of sustainability research. Though there is no definitive definition, there are faculty who are identified as "Faculty of the Environment" which coordinate the University's sustainability research.

The Faculty of the Environment working groups highlights various sustainability research activities and initiatives. There currently exist seven working groups who do research on a variety of sustainability issues. These working groups are self governing, and highlight work done in their particular issue at UK.
