Does the institution have an on-campus garden where students are able to gain organic farming and/or gardening experience?:
A brief description of the garden:
The Organic Farming Research and Education Unit (OFREU) is a 20 acre USDA certified organic farm and research facility located at the University of Kentucky Horticulture Research Farm. The OFREU is the home of the UK Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Project, a diversified CSA operated by program staff and SAG student apprentices that grows vegetables, herbs and flowers for over 150 shareholders that are UK faculty, staff or students on over 12 acres of USDA certified organic land. Many other courses throughout the SAG Curriculum use the OFREU as a teaching resources. In addition to the CSA, faculty and students conduct research in sustainable organic horticultural production systems, and many other courses throughout the curriculum use the OFREU as a venue for labs and hands-on learning.
