A brief description of the graduate degree program (1st program):
By its nature, environmental assessment is highly interdisciplinary, drawing upon natural or physical science training, project management experience and communications skills. Those in the field of environmental assessment identify possible environmental effects of a project or program, propose measures to decrease adverse effects and predict those effects. KU’s environmental studies program, offered through KU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has developed a Professional Science Masters in Environmental Assessment for those in or pursuing roles that address a range of environmental issues.

The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science programs are both provided through the KU School of Engineering. Both programs focus on developing graduate students' skills on topics such as air quality, solid and hazardous waste, water and waste water treatment, and water quality. These skills allow students to pursue careers in any number of sustainability related sectors.

Similar to the Environmental masters level programs, the Ph.D. programs in environmental sciences focus on topics of air quality, sold and hazardous waste, water and waste water treatment, and water quality. However, students must conduct further, more in depth research regarding topics related to environmental engineering and pass necessary and relevant qualification exams.

KU Law offers a range of opportunities to students interested in the practice of environmental and natural resources law. The school provides an extensive array of course offerings, ranging from introductory survey courses to advanced seminars. Students are also actively involved in environmental law issues, principally through an Environmental Law Society and participation in nationally sponsored environmental law moot court competitions.

The certificate program offers advanced training and University-based certification to those involved in building healthy communities. The focus is on training in core aspects of community work—from community assessment and strategic planning to intervention, evaluation, and sustainability.
Educational objectives include to:
1. Promote understanding of the processes and methods of promoting community health and development (drawing on models and methods of related disciplines)
2. Develop core competencies in this work (e.g., creating partnerships, community assessment, analyzing problems and goals, strategic planning, intervention, advocacy, evaluation, planning for sustainability)
3. Enhance experience and competence through supported practice in addressing issues in community health and development (e.g., substance abuse, prevention of chronic diseases, independent living, violence and injury prevention, youth development, neighborhood development)
