A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:
KU's sustainability plan, Building Sustainable Traditions, is the result of a collaborative effort of nearly 150 students, faculty, staff and community members starting in October 2010. Members of the Sustainability Plan Advisory Council, consisting of upper level administrators from major divisions on campus, guided the development of the plan. Nearly 100 faculty, staff, and students participated in one or more of ten working groups that outlined the content of each chapter. Students completed coursework related to the plan for Urban Planning classes, which included hosting Sustainability Plan Visioning Workshops which were attended by approximately 60 faculty, staff, and students. Faculty and staff from a range of impacted departments and disciplines attended the external review meetings at the end of the process.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :
The first goal of the plan is to measure and report on progress towards sustainability initiatives by defining metrics for sustainability for all aspects of campus activity to establish a baseline and measure progress and creating a public database so that sustainability data will be accessible to all members of the community.
