Yes

Does the institution have a wellness and/or employee assistance program that makes counseling, referral, and wellbeing services available to all non-academic staff?:

A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP): A unit of Health and Wellbeing, provides integrated services to faculty, staff, post docs, medical residents, and their family members to promote emotional well-being and to increase engagement and productivity among members of our UI community. The Employee Assistance Program offers: confidential, short-term counseling to faculty, staff, post docs, medical residents, and their families; consultation for supervisors/managers; and information and referral to community resources.

From 2022 to 2023, the university has witnessed a 36% increase in individuals prioritizing mental health through employee assistance program (EAP) counseling services. And in 2022, 92% of clients surveyed agreed that their well-being had improved thanks to their involvement with EAP. Live Well Initiative: The University Human Resources launched the liveWELL initiative in 2006 as part of the University’s commitment to a healthy campus culture. LiveWELL provides free programs in support of health that have a direct impact on individual health improvement, organizational performance and cost management. A free one-on-one Health Coach Service is also a component of the program. Within the initiative, there is also the Recharge+ program, a digital program you can complete anytime anywhere. The benefits of this program are to receive tailored text messages based on the areas where you can see the greatest improvement; you can participate on the go. Schedule text messages for a time that works best for you; and you gain access to the program all year long to build consistency. Complete your assessment every 30 days to track your progress and prioritize long-term health.

In 2023, 50% of the employees who use Recharge+ have reported to increase in their resiliency thanks to the program. And as an essential part of LiveWell, the university has Wellness Ambassadors. Ambassadors act as both champions of wellness and catalysts for change, providing opportunities for their University of Iowa co-workers to increase their energy levels, enjoy more productive work days, and ultimately feel better. The University of Iowa child care subsidy program: Provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students with children to assist with the cost of child care, allowing students to better balance their academic responsibilities with family life. By providing this support, the program contributes to the overall well-being of student parents, enhances their academic experience, and reduces financial stress related to child care costs. And in 2023, 97% of participants in the Child Care Subsidy Program reported feeling a greater commitment to the UI because of the program.

The Integrated Health Home (IHH): It is specific to adult members with severe mental illness (SMI) and child members with serious emotional disturbances (SED). The IHH provides incentives for community mental health centers to integrate the care of people with serious and persistent mental disorders with a primary care physician. This integration of services is intended to reduce the effects of medical disorders and diseases through better coordinated behavioral and physical health services, thereby reducing potentially preventable hospitalizations and emergency room visits for this population.

The Student Health & Wellness department: Offers services to support a healthy lifestyle through educational and health promotion services. They also offer one-on-one consultations in areas such as fitness, nutrition, stress management, tobacco cessation, alcohol and drug use, and sexual health in addition to various health workshops and presentations. https://studentwellness.uiowa.edu/
