The Sustainability Charter Committee was created in order to advise on the integration of sustainability with existing campus programs in education, research, operations, and community outreach. The Committee will assist in engaging the campus in an ongoing dialogue about sustainability and instilling a culture of sustainable long-range planning and forward-thinking design through their respective constituencies, as well as advise on the development and implementation of campus sustainability action plans.

The University of Iowa Office of Sustainability was created to be a focus point for sustainability activities on campus and to expedite action and change through: 1) Communicating challenges and successes; 2) Connecting individuals and organizations to catalyze action; 3) Promoting a culture of sustainability; 4) Coordinating events and activities to build awareness; and 5) Maintaining the credibility and public trust of the University of Iowa

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The University of Iowa has Sustainability Initiatives in eight main areas: certifications, energy, food, green building, land acknowledgment, pollinator habitats, recycling and waste reduction, and transportation. Recent substantive accomplishments include becoming a certificated Bee Campus USA and Tree Campus USA campus, hosting annual BioBlitz events where citizen scientists join UI researchers to collect annual biodiversity data at the Ashton Prairie Living Lab, and establishing pollinator and rain gardens on campus.
