A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
The UI Office of Sustainability tables at each new student orientation day held through the summer. Helpful information about recycling, environmental student groups, volunteer opportunities and much more is offered during these events. UI Office of Sustainability staff meet directly with incoming students and parents, answer questions and offer advice as to how to get involved in campus sustainability activities and how to live green on campus. The Office of Sustainability provides materials for resident adviser training and international student orientation. The Office of Sustainability also participates every year in the OnIowa activities that the University has during orientation week with the Living Green on Campus and Beyond - Office of Sustainability Open House event. It is an opportunity for the campus community to stop by for a free plant to grow in their new living space, meet student organization leaders, and learn how to make sustainability a part of their academic career. As part of this week of OnIowa events the Office also hosts Prairie Tours and a Farmers Market Tour, organizes recycling and composting, and is present in the Presidents Block Party.
