Part 1. Institutional sustainability learning outcomes
Which of the following best describes the sustainability learning outcomes?:
A list of the institution level sustainability learning outcomes:
Sustainability general education course currently required in College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Public Health, and College of Education. The number of undergraduates (Spring 2024) in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Public Health, and Education comprise a majority of the total student body (undergraduates and graduate students) at 51.15%.
Moving forward, our campus-wide sustainability education goal is that by 2027, 100% of undergraduate students will complete a sustainability-focused course before graduating.
Students taking courses in the Sustainability area focus will be able to identify concepts and terminology associated with sustainability and systems-thinking, investigate and understand the interconnectedness of human and natural systems, and evaluate how students’ own actions affect and are affected by society’s ability to meet sustainability goals. Students will understand and accomodate institutional and/or cultural processes and natural systems processes. Students will be able to recognize the global implications of their actions.
From UI Strategic Plan 2022-27: Continue to exercise responsible and effective stewardship of resources, prioritize sustainability, and address the needs of stakeholders in the state of Iowa and beyond. 1. Further integrate sustainability into the university’s teaching, research, and public engagement missions as well as its operations. Strategic Plan Targeted Progress Indicator - 1. Undergraduate students completing a sustainability-focused course From UI Sustainability Goals: Education Goal - One hundred percent of undergraduate students will complete a sustainability-focused course before graduating.
