A brief description of the pre-consumer food waste composting program:

In 2007, the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center began a pre-consumer food waste composting pilot project that has since grown into a University-wide program. All campus dining centers participate in pre-consumer food waste collection. The food wastes are transported to the Iowa City composting facility and processed into usable compost.
