Certified Green Office Program
A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
Every department on campus is provided the opportunity to take part in the Certified Green Office Program. Sustainability ambassadors from each department hold their entire office accountable while providing learning opportunities for sustainable behavior.
A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
Many university employees want to set an example for students by taking environmental action at work, but they aren’t sure where to start. The Certified Green Office Program is designed to identify simple, inexpensive actions you can take in your workspace.
In its first five years, more than 50 offices and more than 1,000 staff and faculty joined the Certified Green Office Program. We invite you and your office to make a pledge to reduce your use of resources and improve the overall sustainability of your office’s day-to-day practices.
Small actions make a big difference when many take those small actions. The Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) outlines campus plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and we believe everyone can play a part in achieving that goal through their day-to-day actions. With your help, we can reduce the environmental impact of this campus and strengthen its position as a national leader in sustainability.

Illinois Climate Action Plan Teams
A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
In collaboration with Facilities & Services, iSEE established teams consisting of faculty, staff, and students to examine the six broad themes within the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP).
Among their duties, the Sustainability Working Advisory Teams (SWATeams) will recommend concrete steps the campus and community should take to meet its iCAP targets, as well as develop suggested revisions and updates to the iCAP.

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (2nd program):
Each team has faculty members (one serving as chair), staff members, and students — and the Resilience team also includes members from local government and other pertinent entities. An iSEE intern serves each team as a “clerk” for the group.
The teams may constitute Consultation Groups of faculty, staff, students, and community members with expertise in all areas encompassed by their topic. Teams select Consultation Group members, based on consultations with iSEE staff and/or self-nominations from prospective participants, and they will consult with members of the Consultation Group in formal meetings and/or informally as they deem appropriate.

Additional Programs
The Energy Conservation Incentive Program (ECIP) provides awards to campus buildings which demonstrate the greatest percentage of energy savings over the previous fiscal year. It is an incentive for employees to make their buildings more sustainable by improving energy efficiency and implementing behavior change campaigns. University-owned buildings of 10,000 square feet or more on the Urbana- Champaign campus are able to enter into the program. Buildings compete in one of two categories: occupant action and energy advancement. Four winners are chosen from each category. Occupant Action includes things building users can do themselves to collectively reduce energy use, such as turning off lights when they leave a room. Energy Advancement includes energy conservation improvements to the building itself, such as optimizing heating and air conditioning systems and controls. Approximately 1500 people were reached by leaders from campus buildings encouraging their teams to change their habits to create a greener campus with a reduced environmental footprint. Peer-to-peer activities are led by building representatives (sustainability ambassadors) connecting with offices and tenants in their area to help them support energy conservation measures.
