Illinois Sustainable Energy and the Environment Initiative The Goal Secure the economic future of the state and the nation by shaping the national research agenda, application, and stewardship of our most vital resources: energy, water, and land. We will use our unique interdisciplinary strengths in science and technology, economics, the humanities, and social sciences to develop, then demonstrate radical new technologies, practices, and policies that reduce reliance on non-renewable resources and encourage prudent use of renewable resources. This goal encompasses basic and applied research, education of students and members of the broader community, and engagement with public and private partners to encourage a sustainable world.
