A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
A survey was emailed to all university faculty and staff that asked them to report on-going research efforts and self-identify if they were engaged in sustainability-focused research or scholarship. Respondents were then asked to provide a brief list or sample of sustainability-focused research interests, projects, and/or publications and to identify which of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals their research applied to. Of 567 university faculty and research staff, 342 completed responses were obtained; 312 indicated yes/no to engagement with sustainability-related research; 101 responded "yes", indicating that 32.4% of research conducted at the institution is related to sustainability. The total number of employees conducting research at UI is 567, which is the sum total of faculty members and doctoral level research staff. Using the proportion found in the inventory, an estimated 183 employees are conducting sustainability research at the institution.
