A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
All active courses in the University of Idaho course catalog were categorized by subject in an Excel document. They were then separated into undergraduate or graduate level courses. The course descriptions were then critically examined for their potential relation to sustainability, and categorized as a “sustainability course”, “sustainability related”, or “neither.” The definition of "sustainability course" used for reference was: “courses in which the primary and explicit focus is on sustainability” while a sustainability related course was distinguished as “a course that is primarily focused on a topic other than sustainability, but incorporates sustainability within.” Once all of the courses were categorized, they were cross checked with the course catalog for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years to identify which courses were offered by the university during this 2-year period. Upon completion of this analysis, the courses were classified by department and counted. The attached inventory contains only those courses that were identified as sustainability courses or sustainability related, complete with their course descriptions, department, undergraduate or graduate determination, and which semester(s) they were offered.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
