A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:
At the University of Houston, sustainability extends to every aspect of our campus, including building operations and maintenance. We have implemented several noteworthy programs aimed at creating a healthier, greener, and more sustainable environment for our campus community.
Green Cleaning Procedures: Our Green Cleaning policy ensures that cleaning practices and products used on campus prioritize environmental sustainability and indoor air quality. An SOP is in place for Facilities Services to continuously report green cleaning purchases. Additionally, custodians are trained on green cleaning practices. More information is discussed in OP-13: Cleaning and Janitorial Purchasing.
No Smoking/Tobacco Control Policy: A smoke-free and tobacco-free campus not only promotes the health and well-being of our community but also reduces the environmental impact associated with tobacco waste and secondhand smoke. UH is a completely smoke-free campus, which aligns with our IAQ goals. Learn more in PA-14: Wellness Program.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): Through our Environmental Health and Safety department, we have established comprehensive IAQ procedures to monitor and maintain air quality across campus buildings. EHS oversees IAQ trainings and troubleshooting. Read more about the program here: https://www.uh.edu/ehs/occupational-safety/indoor-air-quality/indoor-air-quality-assessment-program.pdf
