The Office of Contracts and Grants in UH's Division of Research compiled data for FY2023 using its official database of research grants.
1. Total UH employees conducting research (1,435) is based on employees in three roles: Principal Investigator (PI); Co-PI; and Co-Investigator (Co-I).
2. From the list of research employees, those engaged in sustainability research (158) are identified based on a Yes/No flag in Division of Research transmittals. Additional detail about each project has been assembled manually from the underlying files.
3. The number of departments (155) with one or more researchers is based on departmental records.
4. Research project descriptions are used to identify the subset of departments (35) with at least one researcher conducting sustainability research.
