The University of Houston's proud heritage of academic excellence dates back to its founding in 1927. Over the years, we grew and prospered, becoming the University of Houston in 1934. Two years later, the institution acquired land for a permanent campus, and its first building opened in 1939. The university became a state institution in 1963 and joined the newly created University of Houston System in 1977.
Today, the University of Houston is a major public research and teaching institution, serving over 47,090 students annually with 358 undergraduate and graduate programs.
The main campus is in Houston, TX. The university sits on roughly 616.8 acres and contains 16 schools: Honors College, Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design, Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, C. T. Bauer College of Business, College of Education, Cullen College of Engineering, Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, UH Law Center, College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics, College of Nursing, College of Optometry, College of Pharmacy, Graduate College of Social Work, UH Medical School, and College of Technology.

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
Only the University of Houston - Main Campus is included in the report due to the policy that implemented STARS only covering this scope. Additionally, at this time, the infrastructure between the campuses is not developed enough to complete a system wide audit. This 2022 report will be the first to include the Coastal Center and Technology Bridge Satellites of UH Main, but still no other system campuses.
