A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):

The student sustainability team is the heart of the office of sustainability. They represent diverse backgrounds both academically and culturally. The students are paid and work part time to educate campus members and improve campus sustainability. Current positions on the team include outreach assistant, and garden assistant. All student leaders, no matter their specific projects, perform outreach duties and are involved in the decision-making process for outreach activities. Outreach efforts include orientation tabling, social media and digital engagement, garden tours, organic gardening education programs, and volunteer programs.

All campus via resource fairs, social media campaigns, and large scale outreach events.

Sustainable Coogs

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):

Launched in 2020 the Sustainable Coogs is a registered student organization at the University of Houston devoted to engaging all of campus in sustainability outreach and activation. The Office of Sustainability appoints key members of this org to be trained as eco educators in subject specific areas. For example, The LEED Building Tour guide is an eco-educator trained by the University Architect in architectural educational tours to be given to building occupants and interested students. The Office also supports the org by providing programming space (community garden) and administrative coordination.

Campus wide. Students engaged via garden volunteer days, movie nights, cleanup volunteer days. Faculty and staff via LEED building tours and Arbor Day tree planting partnerships.
