Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
UH Farmers Market
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The UH Farmers Market was launched in 2017, as a effort to progress food sustainability on campus with our new dining vendor. Our UH dining services runs the biweekly Farmers Market on campus and invites both on and off campus community members. The vendors are mindfully selected to ensure local, organic and fresh produce and products are available to purchase. The Farmers Market currently rotates in different locations across campus.
In the spring of 2018, the Farmer Market expanded purchasing options by allowing Cougar Card Cash to be accepted by vendors which can be built in to meal plans across campus. The Farmers Market has gained a large campus presence and local media attention.
The Farmers Market will host themes throughout the year and offers opportunities for students to engage with local urban producers and farmers in the area.
