Green Purchasing Policy:
The Honolulu CC Sustainability Committee 2017 developed a draft of green purchasing for campus administration to review. Due to changes in leadership at the Chancellor level and system obstacles, the initiative is currently stalled. The problem encountered was that purchasing is bound up in so many *system* policies and those policies prioritize a low cost/price point over everything so implementation is currently unviable.

The procurement of all goods and services is administered by the Office of Procurement Management (OPM). OPM is responsible for maintaining the University’s Administrative Procedures (AP) for the procurement of goods and services. All purchases of goods and services in the amount of $25,000 or more are required to be processed by OPM.

The campuses and departments across the University System are delegated authority to make purchases under $25,000.

"Think Before You Print" Initiative:
This is a new initiative at Honolulu CC discussed within the sustainability committee and with administration leaders. The goal is a campaign of 'Think before you print' as a starting point to build on the shift to digital paperwork and class materials prompted by the pandemic.

Items discussed were teaching digital literacy; raising awareness of printing color vs black and white, printing to pdf instead of printing and scanning, printing on both sides, or using a departmental copier vs personal jet printer. They are trying to phase out jet printers for laser printers to conserve resources.
