Academic Sustainability Committee/Sustainability Course Designation Committee: The Sustainability Course Designation Committee will review and approve courses that meet the University of Hawaiʻi System requirements that identify important skills and concepts regarding sustainability across a variety of academic disciplines. A significant component of readings, assignments, and other course materials will address environmental topics.

Debbie Weeks serves as Co-Chair of the Systemwide Sustainability Curriculum Coordination Council (SSCCC), and Drew Kapp serves as a campus representative. The SSCCC aims to help to clarify content, learning outcomes, assessment, and articulation strategies for existing and new sustainability certificates, courses, programs and co-curricular activities. The SSCCC meets quarterly via videoconference technology to share challenges, insights and progress made in Sustainability Education, and takes recommendations back to campus governance bodies.

The Kauhale Sustainability Committee aims to develop further Sustainability initiatives for campus and community, including meeting with and connecting with others working on food security to get involved and lend assistance.

The UH (System) Office of Sustainability functions as a backbone organization, working with across UH campuses to complement, support and enhance the existing sustainability work under way, and to provide coordination capacity for campuses to share information and resources with each other to accelerate action to strengthen the environmental, social, cultural and economic health of our islands’ communities.

The System Sustainability Curriculum Coordination Council is responsible for sustainability curriculum coordination across our ten campuses, however lacks any full-time staff to support its function.

The UH Office of Sustainability is responsible for broad sustainability coordination for the entire 10-campus university system.
