The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Institute for Sustainability and Resilience (ISR) provides a campus-wide focus for instructional, research and outreach programs relating to sustainability and resilience in Hawaiʻi, as lessons from our islands can help provide global solutions. ISR fosters multidisciplinary curricular programs that empower students to meet the critical challenges of bridging local to global, problems to solutions.

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
Founded in 1968, Hawaiʻi Sea Grant is part of a national network of 33 programs that promote better understanding, conservation, and use of coastal resources. Hawaiʻi Sea Grant works in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi’s prestigious School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to identify Hawaiʻi’s critical resource management issues and guide cutting-edge scientific research to address these challenges. Hawaiʻi Sea Grant supports an innovative program of research, extension, education, and communication services directed to the improved understanding and stewardship of coastal and marine resources while facilitating collaboration between academia, federal, state, and local government agencies, industries, and local community members.
Hawaiʻi Sea Grant has four focus areas which explore pressing issues related to the health and well-being of our coasts and coastal economies: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems , Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture , Resilient Communities and Economies and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development

William S. Richardson School of Law Environmental Law Program
A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
The Law School's Environmental Law Program (ELP) was established in 1988 in recognition of the special challenges the State of Hawai‘i faces in developing an environmentally sustainable economy in a unique island environment. In training future environmental lawyers, the ELP contributes to the advancement of environmental law doctrine, scholarship, and practice locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, and we are ranked among the top 25 schools in the nation for studying environmental law. ELP trains students to become future attorneys, policy makers, and scholars in the field of environmental law locally, nationally, and internationally. ELP is nationally recognized and has over 195 graduates with certificates in environmental law who are contributing to environmental law and policy in Hawai‘i and throughout the world.
