University of Hawaiʻi President David Lassner sits on the Oahu Resilience Strategy Steering Committee. As a public institution, the University of Hawaiʻi participates in the Hawaiʻi State Legislature sessions each year to monitor and provide comments on measures which advance sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level. When appropriate, UH has introduced legislation to advance sustainability at its campuses. For example:
[§304A-119] University of Hawaii; net-zero energy goal (SLH 2015): The University of Hawaii shall establish a collective goal of becoming net-zero with respect to energy use, producing as much energy as the system consumes across all campuses, by January 1, 2035.
