​​Director of Sustainability Initiatives Matthew K Lynch hosted two workshops with Leith Sharp (Director, Harvard Executive Education for Sustainability Professionals program) at AASHE’s annual sustainability professionals’ retreat in 2021: Climate Futures Activity: The Great Transition - this activity provided an opportunity for participants to consider our mortality and our roles & responsibilities to ourselves, each other, our home (Island Earth) and its future generations. This retreat created a shared context of experience to connect with the concepts of idea flow, information and energy flow patterns and structures that are conducive to the life of humans, communities/organizations and nature, inviting connections to nature's genius and indigenous cultural knowledge.

Professor Denise Antolini (UHM Law School) was appointed as the Elections Officer for the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France (June 2020).

The City & County of Honolulu Climate Change Commission (“Commission”) gathers the latest science and information on climate change impacts to Hawai‘i and provide advice and recommendations to the mayor, City Council, and executive departments of the City as they look to draft policy and engage in planning for future climate scenarios. The commission consists of five members with expertise in climate change in Hawai‘i, three of whom were faculty at UHM during this reporting period.

UH Mānoa representatives (including students, faculty, and staff) have participated in the annual Hawaii Sustainability in Higher Education Summits organized by the UH (System) Office of Sustainability.

The Annual Hawai‘i Sustainability in Higher Education Summit served as a cornerstone event to advance the University of Hawai‘i Executive Sustainability Policy EP 4.202 strategic sustainability initiatives from year to year.

Delegations from all 10 UH campuses gather to learn together from local practitioners, national subject matter experts, and each other, and to set the action agenda for implementation of strategic initiatives each year. (These have not been held since 2018 due to funding restrictions)
