A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:
In 2017, U of G raised $650,000 for United Way as our charity of choice. U of G’s annual United Way campaign is one of the most successful university campaigns in the country. We raise more per person than any other university in Canada.
The University of Guelph supports and encourages all employees to serve others, supporting people locally and globally. The University of Guelph was the first university in Canada to support Leave for Change, an initiative that allows employees to volunteer overseas for short assignments in developing countries. The institution was recognized for its participation in this program when it was named “Partner of the Year” by the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the Centre for International Studies and Co-operation (CECI).
The University of Guelph is proud to be a partner in the Time to Give Challenge, an initiative developed by the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington to encourage employers to promote volunteerism among their employees.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Sampling data is from the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), 2019. Students are asked how many hours a week do you volunteer? The results are weighted to the undergraduate population and are sex adjusted. To estimate volunteer hours the midpoint of the range is used for each group. ie. if students indicate they volunteer 1-9 hours per week 5 hours per student was applied. Weekly volunteer hours are multiplied by 28 week (September-April).
