Global Understanding
Global Understanding ∙ Sense of Historical Development ∙ Civic Knowledge and Engagement ∙ Intercultural Competence
Global understanding encompasses the knowledge of cultural similarities and differences, the context (historical, geographical, political and environmental) from which these arise, and how they are manifest in modern society. Global understanding is exercised as civic engagement, intercultural competence and the ability to understand an academic discipline outside of the domestic context.

This Senate-approved learning outcomes applies to all students, both undergraduate and graduate. The learning outcome serve as the basis from which to guide the development of degree programs, specializations and courses; as a framework to ensure outcomes are clear to students and to support their achievement; and to inform the process of assessment of outcomes through institutional quality reviews of programs and departments.

The numbers represent graduates from 2019, which covers one academic year. The total number of graduates from degree programs includes undergraduate (Bachelor Degree), graduate (Master Degree), Graduate level Diploma, and Doctor of Philosophy (Doctoral). Number of graduates from degree programs/majors that require an understanding of the concept of sustainability was completed by reviewing program learning outcomes, descriptions and requirements to determine whether they were (1) focused on sustainability, (2) had sustainability-focused learning outcomes, and (3) required the successful completion of sustainability-focused courses.
