Figures needed to determine net carbon sinks:
Performance year | Baseline year
Third-party verified carbon offsets purchased | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Institution-catalyzed carbon offsets generated | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |

A brief description of the carbon sinks, including vendor, project source, verification program and contract timeframes (as applicable):
Carbon storage from on-site composting: Under normal operation, UGA operates an industrial-scale compost facility on its property using in-house staff. Initially established to process leaf and limb debris, it now also handles all pre- and post-consumer dining hall scraps as well as departmental food scraps from our opt-in compost program. Finished compost is used entirely on campus grounds. Calculated using method from Clean Air Cool Planet calculator, which in turn was derived from EPA WARM documentation.
UGA has 70,773 MTCO2e offsets from forest holdings throughout Georgia but these are not kept specifically for sequestration and thus not reported as an offset with additionality.
Adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions:
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions | 209,510 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 273,030 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year | Baseline year
Start date | July 1, 2019 | July 1, 2009 |
End date | June 30, 2020 | June 30, 2010 |
A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
2010 was adopted as the baseline year because it marks the baseline for UGA's 2020 Strategic Plan.
Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year | Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site | 9,678 | 8,502 |
Number of employees resident on-site | 14 | 0 |
Number of other individuals resident on-site | 329 | 0 |
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment | 35,165 | 31,008 |
Full-time equivalent of employees | 10,384 | 10,053 |
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education | 362 | 0 |
Weighted Campus Users | 36,642.25 | 32,921.25 |
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user | 5.72 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 8.29 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:
Gross floor area of building space, performance year:
Floor area of energy intensive building space, performance year:
Floor area | |
Laboratory space | 2,123,911 Square feet |

EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
Replaced over 20 diesel transit buses with 100% electric buses.
Widespread energy efficiency initiatives including chilled water plant upgrades, steam plant controls upgrades, and LED lighting retrofits.
