The M.S. in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development combines interdisciplinary course work with field experience and thesis research, training students to handle the unique, multidisciplinary problems associated with conservation and sustainable development. The program is intended to provide the training necessary to handle the unique, multidisciplinary problems in the area of conservation and sustainable development and to function independently as a researcher and decision-maker to address problems of conservation and sustainable development.

The conservation community has increasingly recognized that responding effectively to these challenges will require that the next generation of practitioners and scholars not only develop expertise in specific fields but also have the conceptual tools to work across disciplines. The University of Georgia’s Integrative Conservation (ICON) Ph.D. program is designed to meet that need by ensuring you gain disciplinary depth and learn to collaborate across disciplines and fields of practice to seek integrative solutions to complex conservation challenges.

Through the process of obtaining the sustainability certificate, students gain knowledge about issues pertaining to sustainability, achieve enlightened perspectives about what sustainability means for individuals, communities, and the world, and acquire experience applying this understanding to meaningful, real-world situations.

Students enrolled in any graduate degree program in the University of Georgia may apply to the Graduate Certificate Program in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development. // Students who earn this certificate will receive interdisciplinary preparation to handle the unique, multi-disciplinary problems associated with working in the area of conservation and sustainable development. Students in the natural sciences will gain a social science perspective in their understanding of the ecology of development, and students in the social sciences will learn ecological principles so that their decisions can be grounded in biological fact. // The course and credit requirements are the same as for the Master's Degree in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development except that a thesis is not required.

The EECP provides an interdisciplinary forum for students, faculty, and the community to discuss social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment. // The Program seeks to unify people from a diversity of disciplines in discussion and decision-making about environmental problems that involve competing values. The Program provides a forum where philosophers, scientists and people from all other disciplines can discuss social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment in a rational manner which clearly defines problems, considers all the information, and maintains our values.
