A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
UGA engages with the local community on a daily basis through a variety of different channels. Many events and activities within the Athens community are partnered with small organizations at UGA or are produced by current UGA students, faculty, and staff. UGA plays an integral role in Athens-life and formal as well as informal partnerships emerge because of this integration.
Local community partnerships, related to sustainability, include Eco Reach, the EcoFilm Festival, Green Fest, Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Management Division, Athens-Clarke County School District Waste Management Reduction Program, the Green Life Expo, U.S. Green Building Council - Athens, Center for Community Preservation & Design, and the River Basin Center. All of these formal partnerships establish a relationship between the community and the University and help to advance sustainability in Athens and beyond.
