Students are able to apply for positions in Student Government for Executive positions (Agency Heads, Executive Directorships, Cabinet Secretary/Under Secretary positions, Cabinet Director/Assistant Director positions, Assistant Supervisor of Elections and/or Election Commissioner), open Senate seats & Committee seats, as well as Staff positions under Agency heads & Executive Directors. Additionally, elections are held for the Executive Branch and Senators (by College) in the Spring and Senators (by living area) in the fall. Within Student Government there are opportunities to participate in Cabinets and Agencies. More information is available at: http://staging.sg.ufl.edu/Branches. Finally, students are appointed to serve on Joint Faculty/Staff Standing committees.

Staff at UF are able to participate in the Academic and Professional Assembly, an official organization representing the University's academic and professional staff not represented in the Faculty Senate. The APA serves in an advisory capacity to the President and the Faculty Senate. Additionally, staff are appointed to serve on Joint Faculty/Staff Standing committees, which advise the administration.

The number of elected members of the Senate will be apportioned among the
Academic Units based on the number of faculty in each unit with each Academic
Unit having at least two elected voting members. The remaining seats shall be
apportioned among the Academic Units based on the number of faculty members
in each unit, with the restriction that no Academic Unit will have a number of
voting elected members larger than one-sixth of the elected voting membership of
the Faculty Senate.
Faculty are also appointed to serve on various Joint Faculty/Staff advisory committees.

As the legislative body of the University, the Senate is directed by the University
Constitution to take cognizance of matters which concern more than one college, school,
or other major academic unit, or which are otherwise of general University interest; and it is empowered by the University Constitution to legislate with respect to such matters,
subject to the approval of the President and in appropriate instances the Board of Trustees and subject to the regulation procedures of the Florida Board of Governors, if applicable.
Among such matters are:
(1) The educational policies of the University
(2) The creation of new degree programs
(3) The abolition of degree programs
(4) Curricula matters affecting more than one college
(5) Criteria for faculty appointment, promotion and tenure
(6) Matters of general professional importance
(7) Recommendations of candidates for honorary degrees
