Does the institution offer housing options to accomodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students (either as a matter of policy or as standard practice)?:
Yes
A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
UF offers housing options in support of the special needs of transgender and transitioning students. Most students choose to select their room and roommates through the online assignment process; however, the UF Department of Housing and Residence Education offers confidential, individualized assignment support to students with documented disabilities, chronic medical conditions, psychological conditions, or other special needs that may challenge their ability to live successfully in group living communities. Each student requesting individualized assignment support must provide written documentation that describes his/her unique situation and clearly lists perceived potential assignment options that address the unique situation. Students may be required to provide additional documentation from physicians or licensed mental health practitioners. A staff member will work one-on-one with each special needs student to ensure a supportive assignment. Transgender and transitioning students are encouraged to request confidential, individualized assignment support though this established process.
