The University supports a Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) with five full-time staff members. Goals of the center include 1) supporting faculty in community-based learning and public good efforts at the university and 2) developing students into engaged citizens who actively participate in the public life of their communities.

A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:
CCESL supports the development of creating sustainability courses by providing stipends, mini-grants and administrative support to assist faculty in: - developing new course syllabi which include service-learning components; - purchasing books, journals and print material related to community-based learning; - creating assessment models and evaluation practices of community-based learning courses.

The University of Denver hopes to develop similar initiatives and incentives in other areas of sustainability beyond service learning and community engagement. While the work of this office has been admirable, the University realizes that this office's mission does not encompass all aspects of the definition of sustainability in the curriculum.
