A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

Wellness programs for students: Inspired by the Marianist philosophy of caring for the whole person, we promote the physical and mental wellness of the University community. The office of Student Development provides comprehensive services and programming designed to help students make healthy, informed lifestyle choices and seek balance that will allow them to transform their lives and community. Programs include a Health Center staffed by a team of family physicians and registered nurses; Campus Recreation programs including group fitness, rock climbing, floor hockey, basketball, strength training and swimming; Counseling Center providing opportunities for students to work towards a more balanced life style; Community Wellness Services programs committed to providing the University community with resources on a variety of issues surrounding alcohol and other drugs; and the Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Resources and Education working with students with the goal of reducing risks associated with alcohol and other drugs.

Wellness programs for staff and faculty: The University provides a Wellness Program and an Employee Assistance Program for all full and part-time staff and faculty. The mission of the University of Dayton Faculty/Staff Wellness Program is to create a culture of health by providing evidence based resources, tools, and education that supports individuals in their journey to their own optimal level of wellness. The program honors the integration, balance, and harmony of mind, body, spirit and emotions to improve health and well being, morale, job satisfaction and quality of life. Each semester the Wellness Program provides a new schedule of classes, brown bag lunches, screenings, wellness challenges and special events. The Wellness program offers an annual health evaluation for benefit eligible employees through a third party, confidential vendor which includes a $120.00 annual incentive off health premiums for those who choose to participate. This is offered each Fall and information will be disseminated to sign up during that time.

The LifeWorks Employee Assistance Program is a free, confidential service for employees that provides resources to help manage personal issues at work or at home. It also includes health and wellness coaching that can be done over the phone. There are also online self-paced workshops, interactive tools and trackers and a health library available. Health Library topics include quitting smoking, heart health, aging well, navigating the health care system, healthy eating and exercise, family/parenting issues, time management, financial management and managing stress.
