Please note that assured reports are still subject to review by AASHE staff prior to publication, which may require additional revisions. AASHE reserves the right to withhold points for this credit if it is determined that the assurance process was clearly unsuccessful in identifying and resolving inconsistencies or errors (e.g., when AASHE staff identify a significant number of issues that were either not mentioned in the completed review template or not resolved successfully).
Did the assurance process include internal review, an external audit, or both?:
The name, title, and organizational affiliation of each reviewer:
Michael Willig, Ph.D. Executive Director, Institute of the Environment
Ashley Helton, Ph.D. Deputy Executive Director, Institute of the Environment
Dylan Steer, Environmental Studies (EVST) and Political Science '25
Chase Mack, Environmental Science (ENVS) and Political Science '23
A brief description of the institution’s assurance process:
Two separate external reviews were conducted by peers at other regional STARS rated institiutions. Margaret Bounds, Director of Sustainability at Connecticut College, and Weston Dripps, Director of Sustainability at Amherst College. Due to the size of the report, each reviewer only reviewed approximately half of the report credits. The STARS review template was used for the reviews and included any issues identified across all required reporting fields, attachments, inventories, and included URLs to confirm that the reported information met credit criteria and is consistent with required timeframes and that reported figures are consistent across credits. The UConn team then updated the data in response to comments from reviewers. The review process is an educational opportunity that facilitates dialog on strengths of the report and opportunities for improvement at both an administrative and student level.
