Documentation

A copy of the institution’s inventory of its sustainability course offerings and descriptions:
Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
One

A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
One of the Sustainability Interns updated the course list by referring to the AASHE STARS provided descriptions for "Sustainability-Focused" and "Sustainability-Related" courses. The intern cross-referenced both the university's 2021-2022 Academic Course List and the online course inventory accessible to students on their Student Administration "Search Course" function. Courses that had changed course number or title were edited on the existing course list. Additionally, any courses that were no longer offered or were not offered at the main Storrs campus during the 2021-2022 academic year were not included. Courses were doubled checked on both course inventory options (as mentioned above) to ensure the courses listed were offered during the 2021-2022 year and were offered at the Storrs main campus. To determine the total number of courses (in general), the Office of the Registrar was contacted to provide a list of undergraduate and graduate courses. This inventory was filtered and recorded to reflect the same criteria (Storrs campus offerings and 2021-2022 year).

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections

A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted:
Courses with multiple offerings or sections were only counted as a single course. Additionally, courses offered on multiple campuses were only counted if they were offered at the Storrs campus. Courses that were offered in both the Spring and the Fall semester for the Academic year were only counted once. Courses that were offered both online and in-person were only counted once.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
This year's updated course list was completed using a comprehensive methodology that was not used in years past. The cross-checking between the Course Catalog and the Student Administration student course search function indicated that the courses listed above were only available for Storrs campus students to take during the 2021-2022 academic year. Please note that to calculate the number of departments with sustainability offerings, the total number of departments was taken from PRE-5 and the total number of departments with sustainability offerings was measured using the same methodology as PRE-5 (i.e. a department was only counted once even if it appeared as an undergraduate and graduate department).
