A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:

All new projects are LEED certified, and follow recycling infrastructure requirements, recycling of C&D materials, and use of recycled content building materials associated with the standards for recycling and reuse. UConn adopted its own Campus Sustainable Design & Construction Policy in 2007 (LEED Silver), and has upgraded the policy in June of 2016 (LEED Gold certified). These guidelines apply to both the construction of new buildings as well as the renovation of preexisting buildings. UConn’s Sustainable Design and Construction Policy requires a LEED gold certification as a minimum performance standard for all projects that exceed $5 million. Building projects may only be exempt from the LEED gold minimal performance standard by approval of the University’s Board of Trustees Building, Grounds & Environmental Committee.
