A brief description of the institution’s LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs and practices:
The Rainbow Center serves the University of Connecticut’s diverse community of gender identities, gender expressions, and romantic and sexual orientations by fostering student personal growth, leadership development, community engagement; and providing resources, services, education, training, and advocacy. The center’s educational and social programs include weekly peer-facilitated discussion groups, Gender and Sexualities Studies courses, an LGBTQ alternative spring break trip, bi-monthly Friday night socials, the weekly Out to Lunch lecture series, the weekly CommunitE e-newsletter, Rainbow Cinema, the annual t-shirt awareness campaign, and a library with over 1,500 books and videos. For the eleventh time in a row, UConn’s Rainbow Center has hosted the annual True Colors Conference, the largest and most comprehensive conference in the country focused on LGBTQ youth issues. On a university wide level, UConn offers a transgender healthcare specialist via UConn Student Health Services, several gender inclusive restrooms, and free and confidential Rapid HIV/AIDS tests via the Rainbow Center several times throughout the year.
