A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:
All new projects are LEED certified, and minimally follow rates associated with the standards for recycling and reuse. UConn adopted its own Campus Sustainable Design Guidelines in 2007, but has recently revised the policy in June of 2016. These guidelines apply to both the construction of new buildings as well as the renovation of preexisting buildings. UConn’s Sustainable Design and Construction Policy requires a LEED gold certification as a minimum performance standard for all projects that exceed $5 million. Building projects may only be exempt from the LEED gold minimal performance standard by approval of the University’s Board of Trustees Building, Grounds & Environmental Committee. UConn’s Sustainable Design and Construction Policy can be found here: http://policy.uconn.edu/2014/10/01/the-university-of-connecticut-sustainable-design-and-construction-policy/ UConn’s Sustainable Design Guidelines: http://www.ecohusky.uconn.edu/docs/development/Sustainable_Design_Guidelines_2004.pdf
