A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
These numbers were estimated by the transportation department in 2012. Currently, they are working on a transportation study to provide more up-to-date numbers. Most on campus students walk or bicycle to class from their dorms. We have numbers from the University sponsored carpool parking pass option. It's hard to tell exactly how many students use the shuttle or public transit as the primary method of transportation, but this is a conservative estimate based on the 1.3 million passengers that take UConn shuttle annually. Mopeds, motorcycles, and scooters require registration and a parking pass on campus.
