A brief description of the plan:
Students, staff, and faculty worked on creating support for and actually developing a master campus bike plan in 2005. Their efforts led to the University working with an engineering firm to formally draw up a plan, which will has been implemented. The plan includes the addition of bike lanes, shared road markings (sharrows), and signage where found appropriate. Additionally, one large existing busway was converted to an exclusively bike and pedestrian passageway.
The portion of that plan that would alter state roads is currently awaiting DOT approval. The rest of the plan is expected to be completed this summer.

3.6 miles of new interior campus bike routes, shared roadways, and shared use paths were implemented as a result of UConn’s contracting with the BSC Group to develop a Bicycle Master Plan. These implementations will help create continuity with bike paths, signage, and sharrows in the surrounding community and should help safely connect off campus apartments and houses to the University campus.
UConn’s efforts correspond closely to those of the town of Mansfield, which has continually updated its roads to include bicycle friendly infrastructure.
