A brief description of the campaign(s):
PREVIEW
EcoMadness is a month long energy and water conservation competition. Each participating building has its own meter which measures the amount of water (in gallons) and the amount of energy (in kilowatt-hours) per day. These numbers are divided by the number of students in the building so we can find the energy and water usage per capita in each dorm. The dorm standings will be updated at least once a week during the competition so that everyone can keep track of the progress they are making. At the end of the month long period, winners will be announced based on who had the largest reduction of energy and water usage and who used the lowest amounts of energy and water overall.
Towards the end of the Spring semester, the EcoHusky Program at the University of Connecticut works with the UConn Division of Athletics, Kicks for Africa, Central Stores, and the EcoHusky Student Group to collect lightly used sneakers from members of the campus and local community. Collection bins are placed in the athletic facilities and various locations throughout campus.
At the conclusion of each spring semester, the sneakers will be shipped by Kicks for Africa to an orphanage in Uganda (http://kicksforafrica.org/)

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
The Eco-Madness winners realized a 29.1% reduction in water use per capita, and the energy winner reduced energy consumption by 6.5%.
Our last sneaker recycling drive netted 3460 pounds of sneakers for recycling, and an additional 405 pairs donated for direct re-use for the program Kicks for Africa. Currently we have started collecting sneakers at two Green Game Days but quantification will occur at the end of the semester (http://uconnoep.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/basketball-green-game-day-spring-2013/)
