A brief description of the program:
All new LEED Gold buildings on campus earned points for local construction materials. LEED policy prescribes the use of local construction materials, examples used in campus construction and renovation includes the following materials: asphalt, brick, concrete, sheathing for waterproofing, dry wall, landscaping materials, rebar, sandstone, sitework, structural steel, and windows.
All other factors being equal, preference is given to local contractors for their ability to travel to/from the site more easily and their knowledge of local contacts, businesses, and processes.
