A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
UCD Topsy Turvy Bus Program
The twin goals of the program are to spark excitement about science and technology in the students and teachers and introduce the concepts of green chemistry and green engineering. This will be done using the experiential learning method and our mobile bio-fueled classroom. Starting with awareness we will introduce concepts of green chemistry and engineering through two short videos onboard the Topsy Turvy bus. We will then engage with hands on systems such as fossil fuels samples, biofuels processing, green solvents etc. Then we will move to the interconnectedness of all life by diving into ecological principles including our on-board worm composting system and “waste equals food” principles. Finally the program will wrap up with responsibility and what we as individuals can do to make a difference in our changing world.
