A brief description of the key components of the custom OHSMS:
UCCS is a state institution is not subject to OSHA. OSHA does however serve as our best management practice. We have written guidelines in the form of the Hazardous materials Management Plan (HMMP), Waste Management Plan and Lab Safety Manual. We have written plans for respiratory protection, log-out-tag-out, confined space and fall protection. We also have SOPS relating to various activities on campus. We have a safety management team for the campus with representatives from most organizations on campus. We have both virtual and in person training required for chemical safety, biological safety, as well as physical hazards such as lasers, fall protection, confined space, etc. We conduct routine inspections of our buildings and detailed inspections of teaching and research laboratories. We regularly review worker incidents and investigate these incidents as warranted.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :
Employee work related injuries, illnesses are reported through our online worker's compensation system. UCCS is self-insured for worker's compensation and as state institution is not required to maintain an OSHA 300 log. Non-employee (students/volunteers) injuries and near-misses are self-reported via an online form through the Emergency, Health and Safety website.
